South Korea has been recognised as a hub of ship building and offshore technology in Asia for the last few decades, mainly due to technologies driven by the strong shipbuilding industry.
Recently, significant efforts have been put into R&D and various research infrastructure facilities have been established to enhance technology development in South Korea. These include multi-purpose fire and explosion testing facilities (KOSORI), offshore topside and subsea engineering (POSTECH), technology centre for offshore plant industries, deep-seabed mining laboratory, and high pressure chamber test facilities (KRISO), cryogenic testing facilities (KOMERI), and two different types of multiphase flow loops with in-situ monitoring system (KITECH).
In this session, the role and research activities of these R&D facilities will be presented in detail, with recent R&D results. In addition, international collaboration opportunities will be discussed to enhance the development of future ocean technology.
